Services

We produce prototypes quickly and flexibly. With our own machinery, a specialised team and lean processes, we develop customised solutions outside of series production – with reduced traceability and short turnaround times.

AOI (automatic optical inspection)

Automatic optical inspection (AOI) is a central component of our quality assurance in electronics manufacturing. Using high-resolution cameras and intelligent image processing, our 3D AOI reliably detects defects on printed circuit boards – before they even reach the next stage of production.

We use AOI to check, among other things:
  • Solder joint quality
  • Component position and alignment
  • Missing or incorrect components
  • Short circuits and interruptions

This technology enables fast, contactless and highly precise testing, which significantly increases both production speed and product quality.

Environmental analyses in electronics manufacturing – sustainability begins in the details

In modern electronics production, environmental analyses play a central role in ensuring sustainable and legally compliant manufacturing processes. We use targeted environmental testing to check materials, processes and products for their ecological compatibility and legal compliance.

Our environmental analyses include, among other things:
  • Material analyses to identify environmentally harmful substances (e.g. RoHS, REACH)
  • Emission and waste monitoring in production
  • CO2 footprint analyses to optimise the materials used

These measures ensure that our electronic products are not only powerful, but also environmentally friendly and future-proof.

Component life cycle – availability at a glance

The life cycle of an electronic component has a major impact on the long-term availability and predictability of a product. We continuously monitor and evaluate the status of each component used in order to identify risks at an early stage and offer alternatives. Life cycle analysis (LCA) is an important tool for ensuring long-term material availability and planning the product life cycle of a newly developed product. It helps to make sustainable design decisions and avoid costly redesigns wherever possible.

In electronics manufacturing, we use LCS to:
  • Continuously monitor availability and status reports (active, NRND, EOL, obsolete)
  • Identify discontinued or risky components at an early stage
  • Proactively communicate changes or discontinuations
  • Provide alternative suggestions and second-source recommendations for critical components
  • Work closely with manufacturers and distributors to secure the supply chain
  • Long-term planning security for stable series production and sustainable product development

Through early lifecycle management, we ensure that your products remain available in the long term and that production risks are minimised.

DFM – Design for Manufacturing in electronics manufacturing

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is a key approach in modern electronics development, ensuring that products are designed to be efficient and suitable for manufacturing right from the start. The aim is to identify and avoid potential manufacturing problems during the development phase, resulting in higher quality, lower costs and shorter time-to-market.

In our development manufacturing, DFM means:
  • Optimisation of PCB layouts for the best possible assembly and soldering quality
  • Reduction of sources of error through clear design rules and automated testing processes
  • Close cooperation between development and production to ideally combine technical and economic requirements

With DFM, we create the basis for reliable, reproducible and cost-efficient electronic products – from prototype to series production.

DFT – Design for Testability in electronics manufacturing

Design for Testability (DFT) is a crucial component of modern electronics development. The aim is to design electronic assemblies in such a way that they can be tested efficiently, reliably and automatically – both during production and later use.

DFT enables us to ensure:
  • that test points and test accesses are taken into account early on in the layout
  • that automated test procedures such as ICT (in-circuit-test) or boundary scan can be applied without any problems
  • that errors are detected and rectified more quickly – for higher product quality and lower costs

With a well-thought-out DFT concept, we enable efficient quality assurance, reduce testing costs and create the basis for stable series production.

3D printing for housings and mechanical parts – flexibility and precision in electronics manufacturing

3D printing is an innovative part of our electronics manufacturing and enables the fast, precise and cost-efficient production of housings and mechanical components. Whether for prototypes or small series, additive manufacturing allows us to create customised solutions that are both functional and a perfect fit.

Our services in the field of 3D printing:
  • Customised housing production for electronic assemblies
  • Creation of dummy backgrounds for installation and handling tests
  • Cost-effective production of traces and auxiliary materials
  • 3D assembly sample production
  • Variety of materials for different requirements (e.g. heat-resistant, electrically insulating)

With 3D printing, we create more flexibility in product development, shorten production time and enable seamless integration of mechanical components into your electronic solution.

Rework Services - Precise reworking for electronic assemblies

Our rework services offer a professional and economical solution for the reworking and repair of electronic assemblies. Whether faulty assembly, component replacement or adjustments during an ongoing project – we ensure that your electronics remain reliable and functional.

Our rework services at a glance:
  • Removal and replacement of SMT and THT components
  • Re-soldering and corrections for soldering errors or layout changes
  • Modifications to printed circuit boards following component changes
  • Documented processes in accordance with IPC standards for maximum quality assurance

FAQs Prototype Manufacturing

General Questions

What is the difference between the BMKyourproto department and HANZA-BMK series production?

The main difference lies in time and flexibility.

Prototype manufacturing at BMKyourproto in Augsburg is designed for fast turnaround times, short coordination paths and flexible processes. The goal is to shorten development cycles, quickly validate designs and implement changes promptly. We therefore see ourselves as a “time-to-market” accelerator.

In contrast, HANZA-BMK series production focuses on automation, process stability and optimization of unit costs.

From which quantity do you offer assembled printed circuit boards as prototypes? Are single units and small series possible?

BMKyourproto manufactures assembled PCBAs starting from a quantity of 1.

In addition to single units, small series, pre-series and zero series can also be realized without any problems via the series production process of HANZA-BMK.

PCB Assembly & Technologies

Which assembly technologies do you offer (SMD, THT or mixed)?

BMKyourproto offers all common assembly technologies:

  • SMD assembly
  • THT assembly
  • Mixed assembly(SMD + THT)

In addition, manufacturing technologies such as press-fit are also available.

Do you also assemble PCBs on both sides?

Yes, double-sided PCB assembly is part of the standard portfolio.

Can fine-pitch components and BGA packages be processed?

Prototypes vs. sample and series production

Technological differences between prototypes and series production in electronics manufacturing

Prototypes

Prototype production is designed for flexibility and rapid implementation. The focus here is on development, speed and cost optimisation. Manual processes and smaller quantities enable rapid validation of design and function. The prototypes are used exclusively for development and testing purposes and are not intended for field use.

Sample & series production

In contrast, series production is optimised for efficiency, repeatability and quality. Automated assembly, standardised testing procedures and robust supply chains ensure consistently high quality for large quantities. Design decisions must be checked in advance for production feasibility (DFM/DFT). Samples are used for series qualification and are already manufactured using series equipment.

Time savings with prototypes

Prototypes

Prototype production makes it possible to take electronics projects from the initial idea to the first functional assembly in the shortest possible time. Thanks to fast procurement, flexible manufacturing processes and direct communication with the development team, designs can be realised within a few days.

Series production

Compared to series production, which requires extensive planning, material procurement, process approvals and the creation of high-quality series tools, prototype production offers a significant time advantage – ideal for innovation cycles, feasibility studies or time-to-market-critical projects.
